Having worked together for many years in taking companies through growing pains, growth, investment and successful acquisition, Chris Way and I set up the Clear Vision Business Solutions consultancy firm that does what it says on the tin!

Our journey started at the WCD hydration Group. To take a business idea from concept to a £7 million company with over 50 staff was an incredible achievement and I am so proud. After the tough pandemic years, we continued the pathway to finding the right business partner to invest in the firm that brought market experience, processes, and longevity.

In December 2021 we were bought by Waterlogic for an undisclosed sum, who a month later came under the ownership of global water company, Culligan. We partnered with Harrison Clark Rickerby solicitors on the collaboration and acquisition. We remained in the business for a further 18 months to oversee the transition.

I originally joined Fred Cairns Palmer and the team back in 2003 to start up Quench Water Systems Limited specialising in water coolers, which we grew and sold to Group Danone and from that venture WaterCoolersDirect.com (known as the WCD Group) was then founded in 2004.

I was appointed Managing Director of the WCD Group in March 2017, having been the Operations Director for the past 12 or so years. The broad product portfolio was based on strong relationships with leading brands and manufacturers, and I was proud to work with Zip, Billi, Marco, Quooker, Winix and Celli Cosmetal to manage these manufacturer supply chain partnerships.

I also set up a UK direct service engineer network for service, installations, and maintenance and this delivered a healthy recurring revenue stream into the business.

A bit about my previous career! I started out in the family business Glanville Tyres before becoming a full-time, professional rugby player and Captain at Gloucester Rugby Club (GRFC) in 1996. After retiring due to injury, I then became Team Manager of GRFC and Director of Rugby at Cinderford RFC where the team gained promotion to National 1.

I then stepped back to focus on my family, coaching at Longlevens Rugby Club, and can often be seen cycling the highways of our county.

Christopher Way

With a wealth of professional experience, I, co-founded Clear Vision Business Solutions, along with Pete Glanville. We are a consultancy dedicated to working with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to advance their business growth.

Recognising the resource and financial constraints often faced by SMEs we specialise in comprehensive business reviews, financial optimisation, operational streamlining, through to the hands-on implementation of practical solutions.

In 2020 my previous role as Financial Director at the WCD Group involved a pivotal restructuring of the company’s financial framework. Serving as a mentor to the management team, I played a key part in transforming the firm into a multi-million-pound enterprise with a robust workforce, achieving remarkable growth in EBITDA. The subsequent successful exit strategy involved the acquisition of WCD Group by Waterlogic, later coming under the ownership of global water company, Culligan. I actively participated in due diligence during the sale, collaborating with legal and accounting professionals.

Before my tenure at WCD, I held a management role at Group HES, a hydraulics engineering firm, where I progressed to being CIMA qualified and the position of Financial Director. In 2017, I assumed the role of Managing Director, guiding the company through acquisition by Flowtech Fluidpower plc. Post-acquisition, I facilitated the integration of Group HES into the Flowtech Fluidpower plc portfolio.

Throughout my career, I have gained considerable expertise in operational activities, including inventory management, purchasing, and warehousing. My board level experience since 2011 includes navigating the challenges of fast-growing businesses amidst economic downturns and global crises. A lead player in many due diligence processes for business sales, I specialise in bridging the communication and expectation gaps between SMEs and large corporate entities, to ensure the smooth integration of SMEs into corporate structures post-sale.

Employing an inclusive and people-centric management approach, I use my extensive experience and cutting-edge behavioural assessment tools, such as DISC profiling. Holding certification as a PPA Practitioner via Thomas International, I bring a holistic perspective to business leadership.

Beyond my professional endeavours, I am a dedicated family man, allocating leisure time to my children and engaging in property renovations. My interests extend to sports, particularly football and boxing.
